Project summary
The project proposal "Development of an advanced vision system for measuring deformation properties of masonry structures" is focused on developing an innovative vision system for measuring the compressive strength and deformation of masonry structures. The system is composed of commercially available digital cameras, integrated in hardware and software with a hydraulic subsystem into a single system. The expected measurement precision is at the level of 0.01 pixels. Advanced displacement-measurement algorithms implemented within the system rely on computer vision: by tracking the displacement of a large number of markers, the deformation of the tested wall section is inferred. Unlike existing testing techniques, the use of this system results in minimal damage to masonry structures during testing, which is particularly important when testing culturally protected buildings or earthquake-damaged structures.
The project runs for 30 months with the goal of developing the vision system described above, which during the course of the project will be thoroughly tested and brought to a pre-commercial stage by the project's end. Technology transfer will be carried out within the project, creating the conditions to encourage further development of this industry. Implementation of project activities will strengthen the scientific excellence and reputation of the Croatian scientific and research community in the field of testing the mechanical and deformation properties of masonry structures, and also strengthen the internal capacity of the Applicant.
