Dioptra

Dioptra is an innovative machine vision system for measuring the deformation properties of masonry structures. It enables precise analysis of wall deformation while reducing human error compared to conventional testing methods. The system consists of commercially available digital cameras, integrated in hardware and software into a single platform with a hydraulic subsystem that applies a controlled load to the wall. Its advanced displacement measurement algorithms are based on computer vision: by tracking the movement of multiple markers, the system determines the deformation of the tested section of the wall. In doing so, it achieves a measurement precision of 0.01 pixels. Alongside significant time savings and simplified installation, testing with Dioptra involves only minimal damage to the masonry structure. This is particularly important when testing culturally protected buildings and earthquake-damaged structures.
